As a counselor and instructor, I grew weary of the process of trying to diagnose someone and then going about trying to fix it. It is a dark way to begin changing lives, uplifting them, and getting them to feel okay with both their past and present. Trauma strategies, life-skills training, family counseling, conflict mediation, and meditation helped the symptoms, but did not explain the "Why?" and "What do I do about it?"

Some diagnoses were often incorrect and created a mindset for clients to subconsciously live out what they've been told.

It quickly can become a crutch to stay "there" in the hold they seemed to be stuck in. I felt an obligation to help them holistically so as to not cut parts of themselves to fit into little boxes, hoping those areas left out of our work would somehow catch up or just be okay. But they weren't okay... not even close.

As a therapist, I got very frustrated. These people were hurting, lost, and confused, feeling cornered into behaviors and events that left them feeling mentally exhausted. They were sad, their body language either manic or sullen, making masks to hide the emptiness swallowing them up. But they were visible to me. I saw them. I see you.

It became quickly apparent that there were questions that I could not answer, even as someone who genuinely wanted to help them work through their trauma and demons. I was frustrated. I had no answers as to why they were adopted or why they grew up in an abusive home. Why are some people born in wealth and others in poverty, some brilliant while others struggle academically, or some born in NYC and some in West Virginia?

One session drifted into another pep talk, practice session, thoughts introspection, or role play until I had to stop the madness. It felt like a sham at times. I saw addicts circle through the system, depressed teens grow into depressed adults simply learning to hide it better, and general humanity wandering around half-asleep, never realizing our potential and our destiny for all we desire.

I truly believe that we all deserve to know as much as we can about our own lives. More importantly, I believe we all want to live awake and aware of our story on a larger scale with an understanding that goes deeper than family trees, genetic connections to addictions, and the ongoing debate about nurture versus nature. It must be noted, however, that I am not against any method of achieving information, as knowledge is the key to understanding and understanding is the key to wisdom. But there is much still out there to know and learn about ourselves as souls.

So, I began to search for another way to help both myself, my family, and my clients. I've tried it all and have gotten some really great advice, but there were still more questions about me and you and why we are here.

However:

• Organized religions speak in general terms about humanity. I am an individual and I needed more specific directives just for me.

• Tarot cards are determined in part with how you are feeling the day of your reading, and feelings change constantly.

• Astrology gives great details for aspects of your personality and the effects of the solar system on your life, but didn't give peace about the "Why?" circumstances and how to handle them. So, I was born with a desire to share. But why? How?

• Even the best intuitive readings will tell you that the free will of others can and often do change the outcomes they see. You can count on one thing: Individuals can be fickle.

• Positive thinking alone cannot always be the design of one's life. It can shape and attract, but master plans are much bigger and grander then we can even understand.

Just like you, I was lost and confused trying to find my way. I knew something more was out there but I couldn't reach it. I wanted to know more. Why am I here? Why do I feel the way I do? I had a deep desire to understand what I'm supposed to be doing with my life.
